An unwelcome guest #Flash Fiction -FFftPP

“It seemed a good idea at the time? Inviting her distant cousin to stay in her house?”

As Maya sat grumpily under the yellow bulbs in a coffee shop, she wondered how she got into that situation.

One month back, Maya’s distant cousin, Neha, called her.

“Hey Maya, I will be staying in your city for a couple of days for my office work. Can you suggest a good lodging?”

At that time, Maya was feeling lonely after coming home from work. She immediately invited Neha to stay at her home. Being a good hostess, Maya cooked for Neha and didn’t mind doing chores for her. However, things turned ugly when Neha’s project work kept extending. Neha continued to enjoy her stay without even bothering to share the household work. Further, Maya got irritated with Neha’s nonstop chatter. Today, after her work, Maya went to the coffee shop to get some peace of mind and to think about the next steps. Finally, Maya determined to tell Neha to look for some other place to stay.

By the time Maya went home, Neha was already packing her bags. Her project ended that day.  Phew! Things got settled without exchanging harsh words!

  1. How come in real life it is never quit that easy for me!!! She was lucky! Loved the line…”At that time, Maya was feeling lonely after coming home from work” I, too, have made hasty decisions which I have regretted because of ‘at the time’… Thanks so much for participating this week. Hope to see you for Week #3!

I'm all ears. Tell me.
