Empty paper, an ink pen without its lid and burnt marks on the book!

The smart pianist was trying to give us a hint before he got murdered.

Oh My God! Look here. The words within the burn marks on the left side are “James Sullivan” and on the right side are “killed me” : “James Sullivan killed me!”
