Lack of Time seems the root cause for all the pending activities which stay dormant in our dreams and never  turn into reality. Tempus Fugus (Latin Expression meaning Time flies). Is there a way to circumvent this problem?Can we get a grip of the 24 hours in a day and utilize them in the best possible manner before the time slips through our hands slowly yet surely?

Yes Of course. There is a powerful technique which I call  the ‘Power of Delta’(an incremental change).  Small amounts of time (Which I call as ‘Delta’ ),  when accumulated over a period of time, brings in huge results beyond your imagination.

In conversation with Jahnavi Chintakunta – Author of Ctrl+Alt+Del

A remarkable quote that changed my life


Did a quote influence you so much that it changed your mindset?

Is there any philosophy that is at the core of your every decision?

Well, I have one. A quote from the legendary Steve jobs’ commencement address at the Standford University in 2005 resonates in my mind every day.

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

From the past few years, I made some major decisions that were inspired by the above words. This sense of mortality questioned the purpose of my existence.

‘Forgive’ because ..


Global Forgiveness day is on July 7th 2015. I don’t have many details about how this day originated or how it is celebrated but lately, I realized the importance of forgiveness.

Few weeks ago, me and my close friend were in a strong disagreement over one particular issue. We each had our own opinions and we were not willing to accept each other’s view. We exchanged tough words and stopped talking to each other. During that period, I was not able to concentrate on my work; I lost my peace of mind and though I was trying hard to act as if everything was normal, I was continuously stressed. When I was browsing the internet for something to soothe my mind, I came across this wonderful quote:.

Forgive those who have injured you –
not because they deserve your forgiveness,
but because you can never be happy
until you release your anger and grant forgiveness.
– Jonathan Lockwood Huie

It really made a lot of sense. I wanted a peaceful, happy life and if the only way to get that was to forgive my friend, then I thought I will try that. Immediately, I took the initiative to end this cold war between us and sent out a detailed email to her proposing a solution which we both can agree upon. When she accepted, I felt the burden lift off my shoulders. On that day, I felt as free as a bird and I slept peacefully after several days.

Also, I started applying this philosophy to myself. I started accepting my failures, my mistakes, and my wrong decisions. When I started forgiving myself, I was able to accept who I was and it brought back the serenity in my life.

Lesson learnt: ‘Forgive’ because you want to be happy.

Helping others: A quick way to build self esteem

Have you ever helped a stranger? How does it feel? What did that stranger tell you?

Last week, on one of my regular trips to the library, one such incident happened. I was in the library looking for books to read in the coming week.Usually at these times, I would be lost in the world of books, without noticing what’s going on around me. I will be in a kind of trance standing between tall shelves filled with books, each of them enticing me to read. You have to yell at me or ring the bell indicating that the ‘library is closing’ to bring me back to the present world. But, on that day,I noticed a key chain on the shelf. ‘Honda’ car key with 2 extra keys and a Kroger card were attached to the key chain. Did I leave the keys on the shelf?. That thought immediately brought me back to my senses and I checked my purse. My keys were safely present in my purse. If I had my keys, whose were those on the shelf? Without much thought, immediately I returned  the keys to the front desk and told the librarian where I found them. Then, I got back into my meditation (i.e searching for books).

Around half an hour later, a middle-aged, tired looking man, probably a Chinese, came to me and asked if I was the one who found the keys. I said ‘yes’ wondering why he is asking me. Then for the next couple of minutes he said thank you several times bowing his head each time. He told that the key chain had his car keys and keys to his home and he was shocked when he knew that he lost them. I tried hard to understand his Chinese accent, but he continued thanking me profusely. I was overwhelmed!

At that moment, I realized the magnitude of my action. A small action, which even didn’t require a lot of time or effort on my part, has helped a stranger. If a  small action as simple as returning a lost item can bring so much self-satisfaction, what if we practice random acts of kindness? What if we volunteer to help others? According to an article in, volunteering can help us  live a longer, healthier and happier life.

Helping others makes us feel good. Isn’t it awesome? I’m going to try it out more often. Wouldn’t you?

P.S: In response to daily prompt

Every effort counts!


The above poster is hung in my drawing room. I feel so proud every time I look at it. My heart sings loudly that “I passed on my legacy..”. It also reemphasizes my philosophy that “Every effort counts”.

A week back, I had enrolled my 5-year-old daughter in a summer reading program in the local library. The library is encouraging kids to read, by giving them gifts for every 4 books they read. I have been reading to my kid since she was 6 months old. I’m a bibliophile and obviously, my favorite activity with my daughter was to read colorful picture books to her. Surprisingly, my kid also loved books so much that she wanted me to read to her not only before going to bed but also, before taking a nap! Over the years, it became a habit and now, we both snuggle in the bed and read for hours together. This ‘Superstar’ poster from the library is an indication of our obsession with books.

This gift also reinforced my opinion that our effort will never get wasted. Whatever we do every minute, one day, will build up into something big. Reading for few minutes every day to my daughter now led her to win this prize. Today it may be a pastime, tomorrow it can be a passion, in future it may turn into a profession. I strongly believe that tomorrow is a reflection of how we invest time today.Therefore, it’s essential to spend our time and effort wisely. Every effort counts.

Here I am, spending my time in the one activity I love the most: writing. 🙂

P.S: In response to the prompt

Two plus two equals four? No.


Are you tired of following the same schedule day after day: doing the same chores, driving the same route and doing the same work at the  office?  Are you bored of leading a monotonous life? Are you reminded of ‘Groundhog Day’ movie?

Here is a simple solution to spice up your day: Think new.

When my days seem like a boring routine, I deliberately try to change my way of thinking and get a different perspective.

Yesterday, when I saw the weird writing prompt “Two plus two equals four: Yes or No?”, I wanted to think about all situations when the answer is ‘No’. Here are few of them:

  1. When I asked my 5-year-old daughter, what is 2+2, she said it’s twenty-two!
  2. There are 2 mothers and 2 daughters in my house. It doesn’t mean 4 people. There are only 3 people at my home. It’s my mom, me, and my daughter!
  3. Yesterday was Father’s day. Many museums and parks advertised “Dads FREE with paid child admission.” If it is a family of 4, then, they would have paid for 3, not 4 since there was a free admission for dad.
  4. 2 cups of milk + 2 spoons of sugar are not going to give me 4 cups of sweetened milk.

The above example is trivial, but it just shows us the extent with which we can approach the same old question.

Try something new or do the same work in a new way. I bet, you are going to feel lively!

For now, I’m going to try a new recipe for my breakfast. 🙂

Today morning, I was feeling awful. I didn’t want to get up from the bed. I hate those days when I don’t have a specific plan for the day. Lately, my life has been going  through a series of changes and nothing is happening as I had planned.

On such days when I feel confused about whether my life is going in the correct direction or not, I do two things: reading & writing

1.Reading :

We all know that we should be calm and approach life with a positive attitude. But once in a while, we need someone to tell us that everything is going to be fine.

Today when I was searching for such reassurance, I found a great post by Iva Beranek.This is the first time I came across her blog and I was surprised to see how her post was just the right one to comfort me.

In her latest post ‘Perhaps there is a pearl ..’  she writes that even if we don’t completely understand what’s going on in our life now, there might be a blessing, a pearl as she calls it, hidden for us, Now, that’s exactly what I needed.

After reading that post, I was reminded of Steve Job’s quote:

You can’t connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path.

I read this quote several times before, but when I re-read it in my troubled times, I get the confidence to face the day ahead.

Today, the post by Iva Beranek and Steve Job’s quote soothed my troubled mind.

2.  Writing :

When I feel stressed, I not only read inspirational posts, I write them. Writing, for me, is a way of committing the information into my mind. Writing helps me to share the information that I learnt in turbulent times.  Therefore, here I am, posting my learning.

I came across this quote in ‘good reads’ website. Comparing life to a book and then inspiring us to make it a best seller is marvelous.

I haven’t read any of Shanon Grey’s novels. She writes books on Paranormal, suspense and romance genres, none of the genres that I read. But this quote inspired me and here it is in my blog. 🙂
